Sanitation Manager - 2nd Shift

We are seeking a Sanitation Manager to become the newest member of our Seatrade – Sanitation Team. The position will be based out of our Seatrade facilities located on the waterfront in New Bedford, MA.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all sanitation standards are met and in compliance with documented processes and procedures established in conjunction with our Food Safety requirements. You will be responsible for managing up to 20 Sanitation Crew members in two busy seafood processing plants during a 2nd shift (post production).

As the Sanitation Manager, a typical shift might include the following:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive sanitation programs, schedules, and procedures that meet FDA, USDA (including seafood HACCP), OSHA and company-specific standards.
  • Oversee daily sanitation operations across raw, frozen, and ready-to-eat (RTE) seafood production areas, ensuring all equipment and surfaces are cleaned and sanitized to specification.
  • Lead, train, and supervise the sanitation team to safely and effectively perform cleaning tasks in a high-moisture, cold, and potentially allergen-sensitive environment.
  • Coordinate sanitation activities to minimize downtime, ensure smooth shift transitions, and maintain consistent product flow and quality.
  • Conduct regular inspections of processing equipment, storage areas, and facility infrastructure to verify cleanliness and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals, especially in proximity to seafood allergens and cold-chain environments.
  • Monitor sanitation chemical concentrations, usage and inventory to ensure effectiveness and compliance with environmental and safety protocols.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of cleaning schedules, inspection results, corrective actions, and other regulatory requirements for internal audits and external inspections.
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance, Maintenance and Production teams to resolve sanitation issues, support root cause analysis, and maintain high standards of food safety and traceability.
  • Develop and manage sanitation department budgets, control labor and chemical costs, and ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement by delivering regular training, coaching, and compliance reviews.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and ensure proper sanitation sign-off before releasing areas and equipment for seafood processing.
  • Ensure all facility areas, including cold storage, wet processing zones, and packaging lines, meet or exceed cleanliness, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Act as a hands-on leader, assisting the team as needed and adapting priorities in real time to meet operational demands.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with General Manager, Quality Control Manager, Human Resources and other plant departments.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Human Resources and staffing partners to ensure adequate staffing levels based on seasonal production demands and business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support overall plant operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in a RTE facility and with CIP equipment a plus

  • You have the ability to communicate in English & Portuguese or Spanish
  • You pay attention to the details. Ensuring a clean facility allows us to provide safe food to others!
  • To perform this job successfully, you must be able to stand for long periods of time in a wet and cold environment.
